FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL: MENUS PLAISIRS LES TROISGROS

Director: Frederick Wiseman

240 mins, France-USA, 2023, Digital, Subtitled

Now aged 93, master documentary filmmaker Frederick Wiseman immerses us for four hours in one of the best restaurants in the world, the three Michelin-star establishment, La Maison Troisgros. A farm-to-table business nestled in the Loire region, it was at the forefront of the nouvelle cuisine movement of the 1960s and ’70s, with organic farming methods and groundbreaking artful dishes. Set in the kitchens, dining rooms, and neighbouring farms where the Troisgros sources the vegetables, meats, cheese and wine served every evening, we watch, learn, almost smell and taste, as we observe the day-to-day running in the caring hands of the same close-knit family for over 90 years.
