Clouded Reveries

Director: Ciara Nic Chormaic

Clouded Reveries concerns the life and work of poet and essayist Doireann Ní Ghríofa. Ní Ghríofa was catapulted into the international literary spotlight in 2020 with the publication of her debut novel A Ghost in the Throat. Lauded by the critics from The New York Times to The Guardian, it went on to win the Irish Book of the Year.

The film is an intimate exploration of Ní Ghríofa’s world and creative process. It is a film about memories, motherhood and the mysterious nature of writing.

Director Ciara Nic Chormaic (Skin + Soul) employs a style of great simplicity, allowing Ní Ghríofa to fill every frame with her presence as she revisits key places from her present and her past and finds the heart of her inspiration in her home place in Co. Clare.

The film was funded by The Arts Council and TG4.
