Back to the Future

Director: Robert Zemeckis

USA, 1985, Sci-Fi/Comedy/Adventure, 116 mins

When teenager Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) is blasted to 1955 in the DeLorean time machine created by the eccentric Doc Brown, he finds himself mixed up in a time-shattering chain reaction that could vaporise his future and leave him trapped in the past. Powered by innovative special effects, unforgettable music and non-stop action, Back to the Future is an unrivalled adventure that stands the test of time!

IT’S TIME TO DESIGN A TIME MACHINE!
If you could time travel how would you do it? In Back to the Future, Marty McFly uses the DeLorean time machine. In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Hermione uses the Time-Turner. Time machines appear in lots of different stories and films.
Can you think of any?

Group Work Task:

– Research films and stories that have time machines. Now it’s time to invent your own!
– Design your time machine on paper or on a computer. Does it have wheels? Can it fly?
– Make this imaginative structure by using recyclable materials. It can be any size!
– Bring your time machine to the IFI on the morning of the film for everyone to see.

Screening as part of the 2015 Spring/Summer IFI Schools Programme.
