This film is F-Rated.
The comic talents of Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters) are well known but as Lee Israel, an out-of-vogue biographer, she untypically and brilliantly plays a curmudgeonly, hard drinking, but ultimately empathetic character. Richard E. Grant plays Jack, perfect in his alcoholic, yet stylish disarray, a foil to Lee’s forgery plans. Based on a real true story, director Heller paints a ramshackle pre-gentrified New York, in which this odd pair, find themselves adrift together. McCarthy and Grant both received Oscar nominations for their performances.
