APOLLO 11

Director: Todd Douglas Miller

93 mins, USA, 2019, Digital

This film was released on Friday 28th June 2019 and is no longer screening.

In the 50 years since Neil Armstrong took one small step, the story of the moon landing has been the subject of any number of documentaries and features. However, despite our familiarity with the events around this heroic mission, Todd Douglas Miller’s film is a welcome addition to the canon, filled as it is with previously unseen footage culled from an uncatalogued store of some 11,000 hours of material.

The footage is absolutely astonishing; restored to pristine quality, and much of it originally shot on superior definition stock, it includes Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins undergoing final preparations before entering the shuttle, interacting as they travel to the moon, and Armstrong stepping on to the moon’s surface as filmed from inside the landing module, soundtracked by exchanges between Mission Control and the astronauts in this remarkable historical document.
