BRIEF ENCOUNTERS: WOMEN IN FILM AND TV SHORT FILM SHOWCASE Director: 90 mins Book cinema tickets This event took place on Wednesday 6th March 2019. IFI and WFT present this inspiring programme of new short films to coincide with International Women’s Day, selected from a significant volume of work submitted by WFT members. While these films couldn’t differ more in style, scope, genre, and theme, they all have one thing in common: they are directed and created by the Irish film industry’s most talented up-and-coming female creatives. IFI is pleased to provide a space to screen and critically engage with this work. WFT is a voluntary, members-led organisation run by film and TV professionals, representing the creative, business, educational and technical divisions of the Irish audiovisual sector. The films that will screen on the evening include: Ma (dir. Anne Marie Kelly, 9 mins); The Girl at the End of the Garden (dir. Bonnie Dempsey, 15 mins); No Place (dir. Laura Kavanagh, 7 mins); Catcalls (dir. Kate Dolan, 9 mins); The Shift (dir. Megan K. Fox, 12 mins); Siobhan (dir. Maeve Murphy, 10 mins); Her Name Is… (dir. Lydia McGuinness & Claire Byrne, 10 mins); Sea for Yourself (dir. Gráinne Gavigan, 8 mins) The films will be introduced by filmmakers and a prize for best film (selected by a WFT jury) will be announced on the night. Full details of the programme will be added shortly. Click here for more information about Women in Film and TV Ireland. Notes by Sunniva O’Flynn Director: 90 mins
