This civil war film was shelved until glasnost saw its release in 1988. It concerns pregnant Red Army commissar Klavdia, who moves in with a Russian-Jewish family. A harmonious communal life ensues, till the encroaching world war places the Jewish family in danger. Dr Judith Devlin will discuss life for artists and censorship restrictions in Soviet times. This event is taking place as part of the From Russia with Film Evening Course which runs from March 21st to April 25th at the IFI.
