THE IGUANA WITH THE TONGUE OF FIRE Director: Willy Pareto (Riccardo Freda) ITALY/FRANCE/W. GERMANY 1971 COLOUR DIGITAL VIDEO 92 MIN Book cinema tickets We at Horrorthon are delighted to share our latest discovery from the (bloody) vaults; a vintage Italian giallo shot in Dublin no less and with a host of venerable Irish thespians in walk-on roles keep an eye out for Rawhead Rex star Niall Toibin! Directed by ‘Willy Pareto’ (one of many pseudonyms adopted by the venerable Riccardo Freda), The Iguana serves up the quintessential elements of giallo black-gloved killers, dreamy flashbacks, sleaze, red herrings, creeping killer point-of-view shots and improbable set pieces with relish, doling out the casual sadism with a nigh-upon-tangible glee. Veteran Italian actor Luigi Pistilli (playing one ‘Inspector Norton’) may sport the most appalling dubbed ‘Irish’ accent in the history of cinema, but as an unlikely snapshot of Dublin in the early ’70s and a prime cut from the Golden Age of Giallo, this Tongue can’t be licked.
