Do box office figures reflect film quality? Who is the audience? What are the perceptions held of Irish cinema in Ireland and further afield? IFI Spotlight, our annual focus on Irish film and TV, took place throughout the month of April, with an industry event on Saturday, April 12th with six panel sessions and great guests, including Margaret Kellegher (Chair, Irish Film Institute), David Kavanagh of the Writers’ Guild of Ireland, Tony Tracy of the Huston School of Film and Digital Media, NUI Galway, Sheila De Courcy of RTÉ, journalist Una Mullally, Sheila Pratschke (Chair, Arts Council), theatre curator Roise Goan and publisher Eoin Purcell, among others; exploring parallels in Irish artistic practice in recent years across film, television, theatre, literature and fine arts.
