GRAVITY (3D) Director: ALFONSO CUARÓN 91 minutes, U.S.A., 2013, Colour, 2D & 3D, D-Cinema Book cinema tickets Closing this Thursday, November 28th. Essentially a shipwrecked-in-space story, Gravity, from director Alfonso Cuarón (Y Tu Mamá También, Children of Men) sees George Clooney and Sandra Bullock set adrift when a debris field destroys their shuttle and kills the rest of the crew. She is the specialist on her first mission, while he is the veteran with an endless supply of anecdotes. With a limited supply of oxygen, and racing against time before the shrapnel returns, they must make their way to the Chinese or Russian space stations and use one of their modules to return to Earth. From this premise, Cuarón weaves a story of great and genuine tension, with ample twists and turns to wrong-foot the viewer, all against the backdrop of one of the most technically brilliant realisations of space yet seen, in a film to place alongside such recent science fiction classics as Moon. (Notes by Kevin Coyne.) Please note there is a €1 supplementary charge for all 3D screenings. Don’t forget we now schedule weekly!
