George Cukor’s chic, sleek comedy of sex, class and media intrusion (50 years before it was invented) continues to dazzle and receive a welcome re-release in a new print. Katharine Hepburn plays queen of the smart set Tracy Lord, who’s about to marry a dull millionaire. Spy magazine is eager to scoop an exclusive on the society wedding of the year and find a way in through Tracy’s ex-husband, Dexter Haven (Cary Grant), who invites reporter Macaulay Connor (James Stewart) as a ‘guest’. Hilarious complications ensue, as Hepburn sends her trio of male admirers into a spin and get herself wrapped up in the twists and turns of the screwball plot.
