In July of 2001, the IFI became (and remains) the only cinema in the country capable of showing 70mm film. Since then, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Lawrence of Arabia, Aliens and Baraka are just some of the films to have been shown in this format, but Hitchcock’s Vertigo was the film chosen to introduce 70mm to the IFI.

The film, recently proclaimed by Sight & Sound magazine to be the greatest ever made, is one of Hitchcock’s most complex psychological thrillers, a tale of obsession and dark desire. Seeing the film in this format is an experience not to be missed. (Notes by Kevin Coyne.)
