July’s Afternoon Talk at the IFI will complement the screening of Willy Reilly and His Colleen Bawn presented with Bernard Reilly’s original score which takes place two days later at the National Concert Hall (see link for more). Made in 1919 by John MacDonagh (brother of Easter Rising leader Thomas MacDonagh), the political and religious strife of the era found an echo in this drama of lovers divided by religion in 18th-century Ireland. 

We are delighted to announce that Nora Owen (Michael Collins’ niece) has kindly agreed to introduce Dáil Bonds Film, and Mrs Carolyn Smyth, grand-daughter of Willy Reilly star Jack MacGowan, is due to attend also. 

IFI Curator Sunniva O’Flynn will be joined by Reilly and Dr. Kevin Rockett (of Trinity College, Dublin) for an informal discussion on this historically significant drama and on the art of creating music for silent film.
