SCREENING FROM AUGUST 21st

Kris (Hannah Einbinder), a successful young writer-director, is hired to reboot Camp Miasma, a moribund horror franchise in Jane Schoenbrun’s knotty, deliriously meta creation. Kris tracks down Billy (Gillian Anderson), the reclusive actress who played Miasma’s original final girl, to lure her back to the franchise. A deconstruction of 80s slasher movie tropes as viewed through a distinctly queer lens, with lashings of hilariously OTT gore, the self-reflective and intentionally artificial Sex & Death confirms Schoenbrun (I Saw the TV Glow) as a truly distinctive voice.
