WILD STRAWBERRIES: I SWEAR Director: Kirk Jones 121 mins, UK, 2025, Digital Book cinema tickets A life-affirming dramatisation of the story of John Davidson, a Scottish boy who develops Tourette’s Syndrome in his teens, making his day-to-day hugely challenging. John’s form of the condition, little understood at the time, causes him to shout profanities, accompanied by severe involuntary movements. Support comes from his neighbour Dottie, (Maxine Peake in superb form), and then a school caretaker who offers him a job. There is humour in his outbursts, as he slowly learns to live his life, while gaining confidence to educate others. True, it’s a film that tugs at the heartstrings, but its brilliant performances, and clear argument for acceptance and understanding, make for an absorbing, highly watchable film. Both screenings will be Open Captioned. Notes by Alicia McGivern Director: Kirk Jones 121 mins, UK, 2025, Digital
