IFI & TRADFEST: DOWN THE MARKET

Director: Dave Tynan

20 mins, Ireland, 2023, Digital

Created by Dave Tynan and Samuel Dennigan, it was filmed over one day in the closed, and currently under renovation, Smithfield fruit and vegetable market in Dublin 7.

The film features unaccompanied singing from Landless, Barry Gleeson and Anne Buckley, all shot in single takes. Two third-generation traders, Justin Leonard and Margaret Hanway, also share their memories of the space. In totality, the film is a remembrance, a sung and spoken elegy for a time and place now gone.

Free but ticketed event. Booking online may incur a charge.
