IFI FAMILY: THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED

Director: LOTTE REINIGER

66 mins, Germany, 1928, Digital, F-Rated

Bring a touch of magic and wonder to your post-Christmas family activities with our screening of the classic silhouette animation, directed by lotte Reiniger. Adapted from The Arabian Nights, it’s the tale of a prince tricked into flying a horse by a wicked sorcerer. Landing on a magical island, he falls in love with Princess Peri Banu but their attempts to fly home are spurned by ogres, the sorcerer, and plenty of challenges. What makes this animation stand out is the sheer beauty of the figures, their filigree details cast enchanting shapeshifting shadows, making monsters and demons all the more beguiling in the fantasy world. The earliest surviving feature-length animation, and a true slice of film history on the
big screen.
