SCREENING: WEDNESDAY 10th DECEMBER

Two middle-class Dublin couples get together for a Christmas Eve party which degenerates into a kind of Irish Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (with a whiff of Abigail’s Party). Alcohol causes smug exteriors to slip and reveals unpleasant truths.

Like their earlier Exposure, this full blown critique of the Irish middle classes, co-authored by Kieran Hickey and Philip Davison, explores infidelity, sexual frustration, and gulfs of misunderstanding between the sexes.

Criminal Conversation (a legal term for adultery) reveals the despair of men and women in a country where divorce would not be legalised for another 16 years. The cast of fine young actors in their prime includes Emmet Bergin, Deirdre Donnelly, Peter Caffrey, and Leslie Lalor.
