(LA VENUE DE L’AVENIR)

Brought together by the inheritance of a house in Normandy, four cousins uncover a hidden history. In 1895, their ancestor Adèle (Suzanne Lindon) arrives in Paris, where she discovers a vibrant city on the cusp of modernity, where new artforms – photography and Impressionist painting – are being born. As her descendants retrace Adèle’s steps, the cousins’ more rigid contemporary attitudes are contrasted with those of late 19th century artistic bon vivants. Cedric Klapisch’s (L’Auberge Espagnole) delightful fantasy is buoyed by performances from the likes of Vincent Macaigne (festival guest in 2019), Cécile de France, and Paul Kircher.
