Alice (Myriem Akheddiou) has been summoned to a court proceeding where a judge will determine whether her children – 10-year-old Etienne and 17-year-old Lila – will stay in her care or be handed over to her ex-husband (Laurent Capelluto). Through extensive testimony and statements, we learn about their complicated family history and of the domestic abuse charges pending against the husband in a separate case. Largely confined to one courtroom, Deville and Dufeys’s tightly focused, intricately scripted, and impeccably acted film grips like a nail-biting thriller.
