The debut film of Noah Baumbach, recently best known as co-writer of billion dollar hit Barbie, remains something of a curio in his filmography. It would be a decade before his second film, The Squid And The Whale (2005), which saw Baumbach write with a more personal voice, and his work since has often dealt with issues of family first examined therein. Kicking And Screaming, however, is more redolent of the cinema of the decade under review, focusing as it does on a group of college graduates trying to figure out their next step, or avoiding having to take it.
