A film about a sports shoe, but not any sports shoe! In fact, the Nike Air became the most coveted sports shoe ever, and the film depicts the drama and hustling involved to persuade upcoming basketball star Michael Jordan to become the face of the then-struggling brand. Directed by Ben Affleck directs and stars as Nike co-founder Phil Knight, and his longstanding pal, Matt Damon, as a persuasive and honest talent recruiter. Add to the mix Viola Davis as Jordan’s protective mother, Jason Bateman as a marketing executive, and a terrific, snappy script depicting the 1980s in this well-acted, well-directed, and highly entertaining drama. It is about a sports shoe, but a whole lot more too.
