WILD STRAWBERRIES: HEARTS BEAT LOUD Director: Brett Haley 97 mins, USA, 2018, Digital Book cinema tickets Wild Strawberries screenings are for over 55s only. A feel-good summertime film, with some quiet points to make about father-daughter relations, leaving home and sexuality. Treading in the footsteps of Irish hit Once, this Brooklyn-set film recounts the final summer months in the record shop of single dad Frank and daughter Sam on her last New York summer before heading away to uni. The pair record their own compositions, one of which gets onto a playlist, realising something of a dream for Frank. As Sam’s last childhood days unfold, we become absorbed in the world of the duo and their songs in this light, musical, affecting treat.
