The couple have a reasonably cosy domestic life, making ends meet through Christine’s violin lessons, while Antoine sells flowers when not working fitfully on his long-gestating novel. As Christine becomes pregnant with the couple’s first child, Antoine threatens to sabotage their future happiness when he becomes obsessed with Kyoko (Hiroko Berghauer), a beautiful young Japanese woman.
