OUTDOOR SCREENING: MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

Director: Kenneth Branagh

111 mins, 1993, USA-UK, Blu-Ray

This film screened 8th June 2016.

Join us on June 17th for a magical midsummer’s evening in Temple Bar’s Meeting House Square, with pre-screening entertainment, including pop-up Shakespearean performances and a succulent pig on a spit from The Hogfather, to keep your Shakespearean appetites satisfied! The night kicks off at 20.30 and Much Ado About Nothing will be shown in the Square when the sun goes down, at 22.00. The sun-kissed hills of Tuscany provide the perfect backdrop for Kenneth Branagh’s mischievous adaptation of the Bard’s comedy wherein the defiantly single Beatrice (Emma Thompson) and Benedick (Branagh) find themselves unwittingly thrust together through the machinations of a younger newly wedded couple. Boasting some of the most uproarious verbal jousting in the English language, Much Ado About Nothing remains a wise and witty delight. (Notes by David O’Mahony.)

Tickets: Film only €14, Film + Hog Roast €18 (no concessions or Members prices, free list suspended).

N.B Entrance through the IFI Foyer.  Meeting House Square can be covered where necessary so the event will remain relatively dry in case of rain but as it is the Irish Summer, please dress appropriately as the screening is outdoors and is open to the elements. The hog roast will also be available separately on the night and to all IFI customers at a price of €8.
