LAST FLAG FLYING (WILD STRAWBERRIES)

Director: Richard Linklater

125 mins, USA, 2017, Digital

This film screened 28th & 30th March 2018.

Hal Ashby’s 1973 film adaptation of Darryl Ponicsan’s novel The Last Detail concerns two Navy men who take a young offender on the town before he goes to prison. In this loose sequel, three military vets reconvene in order to escort the body of one of their sons, killed in Iraq.

Linklater’s three leads, Bryan Cranston, Lawrence Fishburne and Steve Carrell, each fully inhabit their roles, lending their characters depth and humanity, as they interact on their painful road trip to Arlington Cemetery.

Wild Strawberries is our film club for over 55s. Tickets: €4.25 including regular tea/coffee before the event. If you happen to look younger, please don’t take offence if we ask your age.
