IFI YOUTH PANEL: THE FLORIDA PROJECT

For their July choice, the IFI Youth Panel have chosen Sean Baker’s award-winning second feature, following his recent Palme d’Or success at Cannes.  Set just outside the walls of Disneyland, this summer-set drama follows Moonee, the daughter of a young mother, struggling to support herself and her child. Unaware of the bleakness of her family’s situation, Moonee causes mischief with friends in the motel where she lives – but this state of blissful ignorance can only last so long. Featuring Willem Dafoe, Bira Vinaite, and Brooklynn Prince, The Florida Project is a testament to childhood resilience in a life on the margins.

The IFI Youth Panel have chosen The Florida Project for their July screening as the film follows themes of summer, childhood, and the emotions that come with family and growing up. In the spirit of these themes, the panel has organised themed colouring after the screening.
