‘You’ve been scammed’, one of the most dreaded phrases of our online banking times, is the prompt for this super, witty comedy, starring June Squibb as the senior who has been defrauded of her savings, by someone claiming to be her grandson in trouble. While making significant points about ageing, the caper takes on some familiar, Ocean’s Eleven-style heist tropes, and breathes new life into them through the indefatigable Thelma and her sidekick, Ben, played by the late Richard Roundtree, the actor who shot to fame in the early 1970s as the hip private eye, Shaft.
