THE VERDICT (EVENING COURSE: READING PICTURES) Director: SYDNEY LUMET 129 minutes, U.S.A., 1982, Drama, Director: Sindey Lumet Book cinema tickets This film screened on Tuesday 3rd March 2015. Narrative, the art of storytelling, has relevance for most of the fiction films we watch today. The conventional three-act-structure is the framework within which stories unfold. In The Verdict, we follow the trials of an alcoholic lawyer making a last-ditch attempt to salvage his career. Dr. Diog O Connell will explore how the film’s structure sustains this dramatic narrative, with points of tension and cause and effect sequences built around its central character and themes. This event is taking place as part of the IFI Evening Course, Reading Pictures (Tuesdays, March 3rd – April 7th). Full course price: €70 (€65 concessions), including tea/coffee. Please book your place by calling Sharon Corrigan on 01 679 5744 or emailing scorrigan@irishfilm.ie (individual tickets for films on this Course are not available.)
