MR. BANKS SAVED!
Saving Mr. Banks depicts the fraught and dramatic negotiations between author P.L. Travers and Walt Disney in getting Mary Poppins to the screen. The IFI offers the opportunity to revisit the result of Disney’s persistence, a Technicolour spectacle about a nanny bringing magic and song into the heart of an unhappy banker’s family.
Featuring an iconic performance from Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke’s striking cockney accent, Mary Poppins is a durable treat, justly revered for its unforgettable songs composed by the Sherman Brothers, hits that include A Spoonful of Sugar, Let’s Go Fly a Kite, and, of course, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
This is screening as part of IFI Christmas Crackers, a season of family favourites, classics and archive films in December. Also Showing: Saving Mr Banks (opening on November 29th).
