Director: Patricio Guzmán
94 mins, Chile-France-Germany-Spain-USA, 2010, Digital, Subtitled
In dealing with his country’s past, Chilean filmmaker Patricio Guzmán creates this exquisite cerebral film that contrasts the magnificent unpolluted skies above the desert as a place where astronomers gather to ponder the cosmos, with the local women searching for their missing men disappeared under Pinochet. Dr Cara Levey, who specialises in Latin American Studies, will examine how Guzmán’s approach to memory, combining sumptuous images with taut interviews, prompts consideration of how we deal with the past.
Screening as part of the IFI Keeping It Real Evening Course ( Oct 4th-Nov 8th 2016) only. Film tickets not individually sold.
