Director: Ellen Hoyde, Albert Maysles, David Maysles, Muffie Meyer
94 mins, USA, 1975, Blu-ray
The direct cinema style pioneered by David and Albert Maysles yielded landmark films such as Gimme Shelter, Salesman and this one, about the legendary aunt and cousin of Jackie Kennedy, the co-dependent Beales of Grey Gardens, who eked out their lives in the gothic filth and disarray of their East Hampton mansion. Filmmaker and teacher Vanessa Gildea, who met and interviewed Albert Maysles, will talk about their observational approach to their subjects, a style which has influenced many films, including her own.
Screening as part of the IFI Keeping It Real Evening Course ( Oct 4th-Nov 8th 2016) only. Film tickets not individually sold.
