FROM THE VAULTS: OUT OF HERE

College dropout Ciaran (Fionn Walton) is frustrated by the banality of life in Dublin when he returns home, penniless, after a year of travelling. As he struggles to reconnect with an old girlfriend, he wanders around town, enjoying pub dalliances and the warm embrace of old friends, now graduates, scrabbling to make a living in post-boom Dublin.

Hailed by some as Ireland’s first mumblecore, the film feels almost documentary in its capture of the free-wheeling banter of Dublin twenty-somethings, a tribe who are kind, funny, and emotionally articulate – and achingly directionless. This 10th anniversary screening of Dónal Foreman’s remarkably assured debut will deliver a potent blast of nostalgia for Dublin millennials and a cinematic treat for the rest of us.

Director Dónal Foreman will join Dr Tony Tracy for post-screening Q&A.
