THE MULE (WILD STRAWBERRIES) Director: Clint Eastwood 116 mins, USA, 2018, Digital Book cinema tickets This film screened on 27th & 29th November 2019. Approaching his 90th year, actor/director Clint Eastwood evokes late-in-life regret through his portrayal of a 90-year-old horticulturist and Korean War veteran turned drug mule. Recalling the grizzled racism of earlier hit Gran Torino, also written by Nick Schenk, Eastwood plays Earl Stone, a grandfather who digs himself out of poverty through drug smuggling. It may not entirely work, particularly some of the good-time-seeking scenes, but surrounded by a quality cast, Eastwood ramps up the tension, offering us a befitting swansong to his magnificent career. Wild Strawberries is our film club for over 55s. Tickets: €5.50 including regular tea/coffee before the event. If you happen to look younger, please don’t take offence if we ask your age.
