IFI SCHOOLS: SING STREET

Director: John Carney

Ireland/UK/USA • 2016 • Comedy/Drama/Music 106 mins

Director John Carney won international acclaim with his lo-fi musical Once. He achieves a similar charm and effect with this 1980’s set, funny teen drama, in which Conor, (newcomer, Ferdia Peelo-Walsh), seeks to escape from the strains of family life by starting a band. With advice on music and girlfriends freely offered from stoner older brother (Jack Reynor), Conor learns to negotiate the pitfalls of band life, falling in love and growing up.
