This heart-warming coming-of-age tale finds two diamonds in the rough of inner city Dublin in the form of pre-teens Kylie (Kelly O’Neill) and Dylan (Shane Curry). Violent, dysfunctional homes drive the pair to run away, with a fistful of cash all that stands between them and sleeping in the streets. Hoping to find Dylan’s estranged brother and hide out with him, the pair set out on an odyssey across the city that sees them working with buskers, travelling on the canal, and blowing their money on a shopping spree, with the threats and dangers of Dublin always present in the background. This journey through Dublin and away from their failed homes is accompanied by director Lance Daly’s intelligent use of colour to illustrate the changing environments the children make their way through.
