Freagairt na Gairme (Answering the Call) is a contemplative documentary that follows the fragile survival of Ireland’s corncrake, one of the country’s most endangered birds. Set against the windswept beauty of the Atlantic coast, the film traces the efforts of ecologists, farmers, and volunteers working to restore habitats and revive the bird’s elusive nocturnal call.

With atmospheric cinematography and restrained storytelling, the film is a quiet ode to stewardship, where every gesture - a field left uncut, a fence moved - carries the weight of hope. The film expands its lens to central Africa, revealing the corncrake’s migratory path and the global interdependence of ecosystems.

Freagairt na Gairme is not just a portrait of a species in peril, but a meditation on patience, devotion, and the human capacity to mend what we’ve broken.

World premiere: Cork International Film Festival, 2025.
