Teenage sisters September and July, born just ten months apart, are as close as sisters can be. September (Pascale Kann), the elder, is protective, domineering, and distrustful of others while July (Mia Tharia) is increasingly curious about the world around her. Their single mother Sheela (Rakhee Thakrar) is concerned about the intensity of their relationship, but when September is suspended from school and July begins to assert her independence, the three take flight and find refuge in an out-of-season holiday home on the Irish coast. Tension builds as the girls are befriended by local teens and their sisterly bond begins to unravel in ways they cannot understand or control. Based on the novel Sisters by Daisy Johnson, writer/director Ariane Labed conjures a deeply unsettling world in this sinister tale of teenage metamorphosis, dysfunction, and untraditional mothering.
