A fast-talking crime caper, Perrier’s Bounty finds Dublin layabout Michael (Cillian Murphy) in a race against time when local gangster Perrier (Brendan Gleeson) demands he pay back a debt or suffer the consequences. Searching Dublin for a loan with the help of his dying father (Jim Broadbent) and lovelorn friend Brenda (Jodie Whittaker), the trio find themselves on the run when Brenda shoots one of the gangsters threatening Michael. In hiding, they make an enemy of a loan shark and allies of a pair of dog-handlers before a final, Western-style showdown between Michael and Perrier leaves a hefty body count to be picked over. Taking a humorous attitude towards often savage violence, Perrier’s Bounty’s relentlessly pacey plot never gives up in delivering bloodshed and verbal creativity, with a screenplay that gives the cast plenty of opportunities for quips, philosophical rambling, and foul language.
