Developed through Northern Ireland Screen’s New Talent Programme, Peter Young’s assured debut feature turns a familiar tale of family conflict into something far more surprising. Our House follows three estranged siblings brought back together by the death of their mother. Recovering addict Nathan ([Michael Shea) returns home for the wake to find old wounds still painfully fresh between himself, his brother Thomas (Andy Doherty) and sister Patricia (Hannah McClean). What initially unfolds as a sharp and often darkly funny portrait of familial resentment takes a dramatic turn following the reading of the will. As long-buried grievances resurface and competing claims to the family home emerge, suspicion and paranoia begin to take hold. The siblings’ uneasy reunion soon descends into a tense struggle for control, transforming an intimate family drama into a gripping home-siege thriller. Anchored by confident performances from its young cast, Our House combines black humour, escalating tension and unexpected twists in a promising debut that explores the corrosive power of greed, resentment and inheritance.
