Robert Redford’s iconic career both in front of and behind the camera has yielded many highlights and roles to which he brought an emotional depth of performance. As a leading man, he chose characters of moral complexity; as a director, he championed creative freedom and environmental justice. With so many classics to choose from, we have selected this political thriller in which he plays a CIA researcher who sets out to find who is responsible for the death of his colleagues. Playing opposite is Faye Dunaway, with regrettably far too few lines, but there’s huge chemistry between them, as he tries to work out whom he can trust as the conspiracy closes in. Tense, edge of the seat stuff, from the late and very great actor.
