With the murder mystery genre enjoying something of a revival, especially with hits such as Knives Out, this particular caper combines Agatha Christie’s world famous Mousetrap with a murder-within-a-murder tale. When the visiting Hollywood producer who wants to buy the film rights to the play gets bumped off backstage, some haphazard sleuthing ensues with Saoirse Ronan refreshingly different as Constable Stalker and sidekick to world weary Inspector Stoppard (Sam Rockwell). Christie-type clues abound, while the tongue-in-cheek humour offers a postmodern version of the classic British detective.
