THE BIGGER PICTURE: GENERATION WEALTH Director: LAUREN GREENFIELD 95mins, USA, 2018, Digital Please enable cookies if you want to view this trailer Book cinema tickets Award-winning filmmaker and photographer Lauren Greenfield followed her scintillating riches to rags story The Queen of Versailles with this investigation of consumer capitalism and the pursuit of wealth that has created some of the world’s richest people. Starting with some of her older photographic subjects, she presents a number of narratives from the US, Russia and China, all centred on the individuals’ endeavours to be rich and where this path has taken them. She questions the complex issues of sex and wealth, and their inevitable entanglement with women’s bodies. While introducing her own career and family life may jar slightly, this is nevertheless a highly watchable film of contemporary life, that offers stark contrast to Biden’s recent family values homilies. This screening will be introduced by entrepeneur and activist Andrea Horan of Tropical Popical. Notes by Alicia McGivern.
