Colm Villa’s Sunset Heights is a futuristic thriller set in Northern Irelqande ten years after the British Army has withdrawn from the scene. The film gives Ulster’s long running sectarian conflict a different spin by projecting the current situation into a future where law and order has broken down completely and rival gangs are not labelled as Nationalist or Unionist. Luke Bradley (Toby Stephens) becomes caught between the two gangs after his son becomes the latest victim of a child murder. The rival gangs join forces to find the culprit, whom they brutally execute. The uneasy peace ius broken when another child goes missing and both gangs are accussed of the crime. Sunset Heights is less an examination of politics than an investigation of mistrust, revenge and how violence can be rationalised.
