Director: Paul Mercier

Underdogs punching above their weight never fail to win hearts and minds and it is an underdog story that Paul Mercier tells here in this tale of embattled Dublin football club Emmet Rovers defying the odds. Manager-less, win-less, and soon-to-be groundless, the club’s fortunes are turned around by the arrival of the mysterious Walter Keegan (Brendan Gleeson). Rumoured to be a one-time legend of the game, Keegan’s unorthodox methods transform the team, giving them the belief – and the unconventional tactics – necessary to send them on a miraculous journey to victory. Only captain ‘Bubbles’ (David Wilmot) distrusts Keegan as he wonders just who this unlikely saviour might truly be. A feel-good film, Studs combines the dramatic thrust of a good game with a human story about people trying to escape humiliation and achieve something they can be proud of.
