It’s set in Sri Lanka’s northern war zone, where a soldier rapes a frightened Tamil woman. The disillusioned soldier deserts the army and returns to his drought-stricken village. The Tamil woman follows him and her presence heightens the sense of uncertainty brought about by the war and its unrelenting demands on the country’s poorest people.
