Irish Film Institute -SPECIAL SCREENING: CIVIC LIFE

SPECIAL SCREENING: CIVIC LIFE

Director: Christine Molloy & Joe Lawlor

73 minutes, U.K. -Ire, Singapore, 2004-10, Colour, 35mm

This collection of short films written and directed by Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor, screens in advance of the release of their new feature film, Mister John. It’s a compendium that includes the award-winning films Who Killed Brown Owl and Joy, and offers an insight into their distinctive body of work.

Made in collaboration with the local communities in which they are shot, and filmed on 35mm cinemascope, the individual films have been edited together for this programme, which makes for intriguing viewing, as the films merge together and recurring themes of loss, hope, identity and place echo throughout. (Notes by Michael Hayden.)

Includes: Daydream (Extract No.1) / Who Killed Brown Owl / Twilight / Daydream (Extract No.2) / Town Hall (Extract) / Leisure Centre / Joy / Moore Street / Tiong Bahru
