His collaborations with Lydia Lunch, Henry Rollins, and Sonic Youth afforded him punk rock credentials, and his provocative experimental films exploring extreme eroticism and brutal violence retain their power to disturb. Winding Refn has cited Kern as an influence on Only God Forgives, in particular the 1990 short film The Evil Cameraman, which is included in this programme. (Notes by Michael Hayden.)
