NATIONAL THEATRE LIVE: MACBETH

Director: ROB ASHFORD & KENNETH BRANAGH

Approx: 120 minutes, U.K., 2013

William Shakespeare’s Macbeth is this month’s presentation from National Theatre Live, a series of live performances from the U.K.’s most prestigious theatre companies, broadcast onto cinema screens via satellite globally.

Performing from within the walls of a deconsecrated church as part of the Manchester International Festival, multi-award winning film and theatre actor Kenneth Branagh – who has appeared onscreen in Henry V (1989), Much Ado About Nothing (1993) and Hamlet (1996) – takes the lead role in this ambitious production of one of the bard’s darkest and most compelling plays. Playing opposite him as Lady Macbeth is distinguished actress Alex Kingston (ER and Doctor Who).

With direction from both Branagh and eight-time Tony Award nominee Rob Ashford, this will undoubtedly make for an enthralling night at the cinema.

Presented by the IFI in association with Dublin Theatre Festival. Tickets cost €15 (€12 IFI Members). Tickets must be collected by 20.15, with the live performance starting strictly at 20.30.
