Love That Dare Not Speak Its Name, The

From Oscar Wilde in the 1890’s to the 1993 decriminalisation of homosexuality, this documentary provides a brief and very personal view of the lives, struggles and triumphs of lesbian and gay lives in Ireland over the last century.

This film contains many rare archive images of Kate O’Brien, Micheal MacLiamm’ir, Hilton Edwards and Brendan Behan set against the background of a country coming to terms with its own identity.

The commentary is provided by some of Ireland’s leading gay writers, biographers, academics and activists.

The Love That Dare Not Speak Its Name was produced and directed by Bill Hughes. A Radius Television Production for RTE.

We are very pleased to welcome Bill Hughes who will be introducing his film and a discussion afterwards.
